The Cowichan Valley is now home to the first of its kind Seed Incubator Farm.

Based on the successful ‘Incubator Farm’ model that has been implemented in numerous places to train new farmers, the Cowichan Incubator Seed Farm (CISF) will be the first to focus specifically on training new seed farmers.

A secure, diverse, and regionally adapted seed supply is essential to a community’s food security. The loss of seed diversity, localized production, and the skills and knowledge to produce this supply is a challenge that the Cowichan Green Community is intent on addressing.

Located on North Cowichan land on Beverly Street next to Alexander Elementary, the Incubator Farm team has begun restoring and enhancing a once prime agricultural site. The project goal is recreate a beautiful and productive space that will serve as a community seed bank and regional centre for seed education and training.
