The Alberni Valley Food Hub (AVFH) helps facilitate food production, food security, and food sovereignty in the Alberni-Clayoquot Region.

The AVFH works with local partners including the Vancouver Island Health Authority, Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, and Alberni Farmers' Institute to  strengthen collaboration and support initiatives and action related to food security. We work to build community awareness and knowledge about food and food systems and support those who are working to make our food system more resilient and economically sustainable.

The Alberni Valley Gleaning Project harvests fruit, nuts, and vegetables and distributes them throughout the community.
Rescue the Pumpkins! Many pumpkins go to waste post Halloween, and we have the ability to change that! Each year the AV Food Hub and a great group of volunteers collects and processes unwanted pumpkins from the grocery stores and resident homes. We then process the food for redistribution. There are three categories that the pumpkins can go towards: human consumption, animal (livestock) consumption, or organic waste.
The Alberni Valley Gleaning Project aims to decrease waste and increase distribution of delicious, nutritious, and local food. Our Valley has a lot of potential for food production, and we need to ensure that all this amazing food gets used. We are a non-profit organization that depends on donations, community funding, and many hours of volunteer work.
