The Alberni Valley Gleaning Project aims to decrease waste and increase distribution of delicious, nutritious, and local food. Our Valley has a lot of potential for food production, and we need to ensure that all this amazing food gets used.
We are a non-profit organization that depends on donations, community funding, and many hours of volunteer work.
The Alberni Valley Gleaning Project harvests fruit, nuts, and vegetables and distributes them throughout the community.
Rescue the Pumpkins! Many pumpkins go to waste post Halloween, and we have the ability to change that! Each year the AV Food Hub and a great group of volunteers collects and processes unwanted pumpkins from the grocery stores and resident homes. We then process the food for redistribution. There are three categories that the pumpkins can go towards: human consumption, animal (livestock) consumption, or organic waste.
This a great local market community. Handmade, homegrown or homemade items in a wide variety of your favourite goodies is what you will find here. Join us in growing our market; vendors, customers, volunteers, ideas and fun are always welcome!
