In 2007 Ocean Crest Community Church planted a ministry in Port Hardy. Over the course of these ten years, The Salvation Army Lighthouse Resource Centre has become a beacon of light and a symbol of hope for many people in the community. In and through each program facilitated at the center, central components of our faith have been incorporated, including prayer and scripture through devotions and Bible study.

“Food is the Medium, Community is the Message” is our catchy vision statement. One of the goals of the Galiano Community Food Program from its inception has been to build community. And the way we do that is through the sharing of food with neighbours and community members.
Community Meal Prep wants to help all ages and stages get cooking. We offer several types of opportunities to learn kitchen skills, build community, and fill your freezer with healthy, homemade, DELICIOUS meals. We have adult nights, adult parties, kids classes, as well as ready-made meals to purchase. We want to make feeding your family, easy, economical and fun!
Enjoy cooking in a group and taking delicious affordable meals home to your family. Community Kitchens run Wednesday and Friday with a different focus for each kitchen. There is a cost per person to help cover the cost of ingredients. Childminding is provided for $2/child. Registration is required.
Join Paula and embark on the journey of slow food and the world of home crafted, artisan cheeses. Using products readily available, Paula demystifies the idea that cheese making is difficult with comprehensive instruction. You will also be shown some unique and creative ideas for serving the cheeses you will be making in these Taste, Touch, Feel demonstration classes! Please bring a container.
Focusing on daily small practices leads to big results
Socialize with other seniors in the community while enjoying a delicious and nutritious homemade meal. This program features a mix of guest speakers, social activities and theme activities during the holiday seasons.
No need to cook and eat alone! Social Cooking sessions are offered at Gordon Head Recreation Centre and GR Pearkes Recreation Centre bi-weekly. This is not a cooking instruction class but a cooperative, fun social time to cook together and enjoy a meal. Everything provided, just bring an apron and extra container in case of leftovers!
A pre- and post-natal program, in cooperation with Victoria Best Babies and Island Health that aims to optimize nutrition and health in expectant new parents and families.
